2020 History is Served explores cultures, communities, and cuisine of the Arkansas Delta. The second in this series takes a look at the Italian communities that settled around Lake Village at the end of the 19th century. It’s been 125 years since the first Italians arrived at Sunnyside Plantation, answering a call for laborers and changing the cultural landscape of the Delta.
Chef Jacquelyn Compton of The Pizzeria will create a modern meal inspired by this community, available for curbside pick up at The Anthony School.
Later that evening, there will be a virtual Zoom program that explores this slice of history a little deeper, with Chef Comton, Dr. Jeannie Whayne (editor of Shadows over Sunnyside: An Arkansas Plantation in Transition, 1830-1945), and Anthony Borgognoni, a resident of the Italian community in Lake Village
