What thread ties together a tune, dialog, picture, certificate, baseball team and more? The answer will be on display in the Horace C. Cabe Gallery of Historic Arkansas Museum. The Arkansas Traveler opens Nov. 12, 2004 and will run through Jan. 2, 2005.

Little Rock-based photographer Timothy Hursley is considered to be one of the finest architectural photographers in the world. He is the recipient of the 1990 American Institute of Architects Honor Award and his work has appeared in virtually every major architectural publication. The photographs on exhibit follow the construction of the Clinton Presidential Center from January of 2003 to the present.

Historic Arkansas Museum will present Latin American Graphics: The Evolution of Identity from the Mythical to the Personal, Aug. 12 – Nov. 7, 2004. This exhibit features the work of 39 artists from 16 Latin American and Caribbean countries, from Mexico to Argentina, and surveys the evolution of Latin American printmaking from the mid-20th century to the present.
View Photo - April 20, 2004 - Historic Arkansas Museum - 3rd Annual Eclectic Collector Series Features Woodcarvings of Rupert P. Kreider
Rupert Kreider (1897-1983) sustained a lifelong love of whittling. The complex relief-carved scenes included in this exhibition illustrate the artist’s use of linear perspective. Kreider, an itinerate artist, frequently visited the Squirrel Trading Post in St. Joe, Arkansas, where his intricate, narrative carvings were displayed to entranced customers. The collection is owned by John Joe and Karen Harris.

From 1941 to 1971, the well-loved yet controversial Classics Illustrated series presented abridged, comics-style versions of literary masterpieces. A Classics Illustrated collector since the age of five, Little Rock author and attorney Bill Jones has written a study of the series that has received international attention. Jones has assembled a complete set of the original American series, a number of foreign issues, and some original artwork by Henry C. Kiefer, Arnold L. Hicks, and Graham Ingels. The exhibit shows the development of the series and the evolution of art and textual fidelity. - March 18, 2004 - Historic Arkansas Museum - World Premiere of Local Documentary at Museum
Historic Arkansas Museum will host the world premiere of the documentary A Guided Tour of Mount Holly Cemetery, directed by Chris Cranford, on Thursday, April 15, 2004. Red carpet arrivals will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by a 6:00 screening of the film and awards presentation by Senator David Pryor. The evening will be emceed by film critic Renee Shapiro of KATV. Ticket price is $75 per person and includes a reception after the viewing. The proceeds will benefit Mount Holly Cemetery and Historic Arkansas Museum. - February 25, 2004 - An Afternoon of American Pottery Appraisals Accompanies Exhibit
Visitors are invited to find out if their flea market finds are worth more than pocket change on March 27, 1-4 p.m. at Historic Arkansas Museum.

This is the first exhibit to look at the commercial manufacture of art pottery in the South. Southern art pottery has an artistic value grounded in the influences of design elements from ancient times to the early 1900s. Many of the design elements seen today are based on those well established in the past. Curated by historian David Edwin Gifford of Little Rock.

- January 20, 2004 - Musical Tells Story of Pioneer Life Through Quilts
The Community Theater of Little Rock, in a special partnership with Historic Arkansas Museum, will present Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek’s Quilters, Feb. 6, 7, 13 & 14 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 8 & 15 at 2:30 p.m. in the museum’s Ottenheimer Theater. The musical features the lives of pioneer women and is directed by Tricia H. Spione. - January 15, 2004 - Legendary Body of Work to be Shown at Historic Arkansas Museum
Walker Evans and James Agee: Let Us Now Praise Famous Men will open on Jan. 22 and will run through April 15 at Historic Arkansas Museum. The exhibition offers a fresh perspective to the legendary body of work that changed the face of documentary reporting by taking an in-depth look at the collaborative power of Evan’s photographs and Agee’s writing. - January 15, 2004 - Artist Explores a Sense of Place in New Exhibit
Historic Arkansas Museum’s Trinity Gallery for Arkansas Artists will present A Sense of Place, a collection of recent works by Henri Linton, Jan. 29 – March 28. The public is invited to a free opening reception 7 - 9 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29, to meet the artist and view the exhibit. Music will be provided by jazz duo Gerald and Carl.
