Tiny Treasures: Miniatures from the Permanent Collection

August 12, 2016

The museum’s collection contains an array of diminutive objects dating from the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries, including miniature portraits, furniture, tea sets, and more. Among the unique pieces on exhibit are a miniature painted on ivory of Don Joseph Valliere D'Hauterive, commander of the Arkansas Post from 1787 – 1790, as well as a collection of hand-crocheted dolls from Malvern, Arkansas, all measuring less than two inches tall.  These tiny treasures offer a surprisingly large look into the often overlooked miniature material culture of generations past.
