Reflections from the Monday Studio Artists

September 13, 2013

Second Floor Gallery - September 13 through November 3, 2013

The Monday Studio is a group of four Hot Springs Village artists who have been painting together since 2005: Shirley R. Anderson, Barbara Seibel, Sue Shields and Caryl Joy Young. This exhibit features each artist’s landscape works.

Anderson works primarily in pastels. “I paint from nature,” she says. “Most of my work is created on location, which gives me the truest sense of the patterns of light and shadows.” Seibel strives for realism in her watercolor paintings and says, “I use high contrast areas to focus on what I consider the most important element in the painting.” Shields creates her landscapes in oils, pastels and graphite, saying, “Color is my language. A brush, pencil or pastels are the tools….” Young was inspired to create art by a museum visit. She says, “The journey really is about my sharing the beauty surrounding me in landscapes expressed in the bold colors of pastels and acrylics.”
