2019-12-13 O, Christmas Trees!

Dec. 13, 2019

The tradition of the modern Christmas tree began in 16th-century Germany, although the symbolism associated with evergreens reaches all the way back to the Egyptians, the Romans, the Vikings, and other ancient cultures. While historical Christmas trees were decorated with colored paper, tinsel, and candles, today's trees often feature strings of electric lights, glass ornaments, and garlands.
This exhibit includes holiday cards and photographs from Historic Arkansas Museum’s collection that celebrate 20th-century Arkansas Christmas trees, featuring their decorations, the gifts beneath their boughs, and the people who gathered around them.
On exhibit in the Horace C. Cabe foyer through February 2, 2020.
