John Harlan Norris: Public Face

John Harlan Norris: Public Face

February 13, 2015

In a twist on traditional portraiture, painter John Harlan Norris focuses on the uniforms and tools of each sitter’s trade in order to describe the subject’s complex relationship with his or her primary occupation. This process obscures the sitter’s face and other identifying characteristics, lending emphasis to “the signifiers of the roles they assume in their daily lives.” Mr. Norris is an Associate Professor of Art at Arkansas State University, and he exhibits his artwork nation-wide.

The exhibition continues in the Trinity Gallery for Arkansas Artists through May 3, 2015.
