2019-07 Glint & Glimmer

July 12, 2019

This mini-exhibit in the foyer of Cabe Gallery celebrates recent additions to the Historic Arkansas Museum’s permanent collection that flash and gleam with metallic elements. A richly colored painting of a French interior by Arkansas artist Francis Quarles Thomason dances with reflected light, while a finely crafted minimalist ladle made by female silversmith Maria Regnier winks nearby. A stunning percussion derringer pistol made in Little Rock by gunsmiths Trumpler & Day gleams with German silver accents. A silver sign advertising the engraving skills of Arkansas jeweler Levi Storthz, a metallic halftone printing block used to produce photographs in turn-of-the-century newspapers and journals, and jewelry by the ever-innovative Elsie Freund round out this flashy group. On display through October 1, 2019.
