Louis Freund [1905-1999] was an accomplished artist and art professor during his lifetime. Many of his Depression era murals hang in public buildings around the United States. Freund founded the art department at Little Rock Junior College (present-day University of Arkansas at Little Rock), the Summer Art School of the Ozarks in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and served as co-founder and Chairman of the Department of Art at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. Freund also received Carnegie and Stetson grants to study art history in Mexico and Central America. Louis Freund was married to Elsie Freund [1912-2001], equally well known for her artistic achievements.
