The crazy quilt swept the nation in the last quarter the 19th century. The embroidered green ā€œLā€ in the center stands for Landis. There is a white ribbon in this quilt that refers to the martyred President James Garfield. Death-related textiles in a variety of media were not uncommon during the period.
