Young C.F.M. Noland (1810-1858) is pictured in uniform mounted in brass oval locket with black ribbon. He was commissioned into Dragoons in 1834. On the verso is a daguerrotype of a young boy (possibly his son) underneath the daguerreotype case contains lock of hair also probable Noland's son's.

Noland is was Arkansas"s best known literary figure of the nineteenth century. His acerbic wit (aka Pete Whetstone) could always be found in his humorous essays of pioneer life, and roughing it" along the Arkansas frontier.
