This library table features a molded top edge with geometric, flat incised carving on its skirt, and is supported by scissored legs. The table"s strong angularity and overall simplicity of form, along with the incised carving, makes apparent how both the Eastlake and Aesthetic design movements of the late 19th century strongly influenced even rural cabinetmakers. John Louis Roderweis was born in 1846 in Phulinger, Germany and married Willhilmina Maria Ketcher who was also born in Germany. The Roderweises moved to Arkansas in 1881. John Louis & Willhilmina had three children; Emilie (born in Germany, August 31, 1874), Elli (born in Arkansas, July 15, 1881), Isabell (born in Arkansas, February 13, 1884).
