This Henry Byrd portrait is of young John Peay Hammond standing next to his favorite companion, his dog Bounce, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. According to family accounts, John refused to have his portrait made without his dog. Family history states that John died soon after this portrait was made and his dog soon followed him to the grave.
