Unusual vessel shapes, and conjoined vessels like this one, are rare in the Caddo area. Caddoan potters displayed complexity in plastic and dry engraved design on a relatively few kinds of simple vessel shapes. This contrasts with the Native societies in eastern Arkansas where potters experimented with form-rendering (animal effigies), and color, rather than with complex texturizing patterns on vessel surfaces.
