An early political cartoon in support of United States Senator J. William Fulbright"s first senatorial campaign. Walt Disney character Donald Duck appropriately garbed in sailor uniform, reflecting the nation"s continuing struggle in World War II, proudly announces--- "Me for Fulbright!" J. William Fulbright [1905-1995] was elected to the United States senate from Arkansas in 1944 and served until 1974. While in office, Fulbright served as Chair of the committees on Banking and Finance, and Foreign Relations. The highly prized Fulbright Scholarship is named after the late Senator, who was a long-time champion of higher education.
