This vessel has been marred by the addition of black shoe polish or paint that was used to enhance the contrast in the design. Vessels with this decoration are found in both the Ouachita Basin Caddoan settlements, and in Mississippian culture communities in southeast Arkansas, but the clay type and manufacturing technique of this item indicate that it was made in the Caddo area.
